The Industrial Revolution Was Still Taking Place - 899 Words

â€Å"An infinite number of comforts and conveniences which had no existence two or three centuries ago and those comforts are not used only by a few, but are within the reach of almost all men.â€Å" This quote comes from The Working Man’s Companion, a book written in 1831 (Noonan 4). In the time the book was written, the Industrial Revolution was still taking place. During the time of the Industrial Revolution, new ways of thinking, inventions, and innovations were taking place. The people had transitioned into a factory system, moving away from the cottage industry. This greatly improved the economy, and after this transition, new political ideas spurred. Not only that, but the effect this had on the people were drastic. Whether the Industrial Revolution overall was positive or negative, is very debatable because there is strong evidence for both sides of reasoning. The positives, in the end, did overshadow the negatives because of all the progress that was made during th at time. Politically, the Industrial Revolution caused new ways of thinking such as the laissez-faire system, socialism, and capitalism, but that was not all good. This started to divide the people based on different beliefs because not everyone could agree to one. Some people thought the capitalist were going to take over if the government didn’t step in and take over. These people were the Socialist (Davis Economic). Question: Choose any Organization of your choice Reflect on the evolution of the marketing concept. Outline the elements of the Marketing Process. Answer: Introduction One of the most popular American MNC in the food and beverage industry is PepsiCo. The company was founded in 1903 and is growing since then with great reputation and supplies food, snacks, beverages, and other products to more than 200 countries(PepsiCo Inc. Success Story, 2017). The recipe of the drink was founded by a pharmacist and industrialist Caleb Bradham. In 1965, it made a merger with Frito Lay and named the drink Pepsi-Cola. The headquarters of the company is situated in Purchase in New York and with rising reputation under the namesake of Pepsi, has extended its wings into several food and beverage brands spread all over the globe(Pepsico , 2017). The company holds second position worldwide in food and beverage industry and is the owner of major brands like Pizza Hut, KFC, Wilson Sporting Goods, California Pizza Kitchen, Taco Bell and many more. In 1998 the company made a successful purchase of Tropicana products and also did a merger with Quaker Oats in 2001. Presently t he chief executive of the company is Indra Krishnamurthy Nooyi under whom the company has achieved new highs. The company employees more than two hundred and seventy four thousand people who works not only in U.S.A, but many other subsidiaries and divisions spread worldwide. The company had always faced many challenges from its competitors like Coca Cola, but with outstanding marketing strategy and increase in its efficiency in natural resources, it had survived the market and is one of the most recognised brands globally.(Bailey, 2014) Pestle Analysis PepsiCo is the second largest company worldwide dealing in food and beverage industry. PESTLE analysis is a tool which will help us to look into different factors which are exterior to the control of the company, but is significant to the firm. Threats which the company faces are global market challenges, while opportunities to improve the same are also created in its growth path. With proper evaluation and reforms based on the model of PESTLE analysis, PepsiCos long term growth in changing environment of market will be boosted. Stability in the government politically, and intergovernmental cooperation provides growth opportunity and improves global expansion. The economic threats which the company faces constantly are due to initiatives against sweetened carbonated drinks which affect the profit in affected areas. In order to avoid such threats, the company can keep changing its product and its recipes. The company has vast opportunity for enlargement and development as economic sta bility of developed countries it deals in is high in its growth rates. Hence, with this element PepsiCo can utilise market diversification to attain steady intercontinental growth. There are few threats also which are related to economic factors as the company is highly depended on economic stability and growth of developing countries like China(Meyer, 2017). External factors like health consciousness in customers about salt, sugar, fat content, etc. in beverages have been a social threat to the company. However the same also provides scope for developing the product and with its upgrading, PepsiCo can enhance the market. With the changing habits and busy lifestyle, people are more interested in buying ready to eat food like those of PepsiCo which can prove advantageous for the company especially in urbanised and industrializing marketplace worldwide. The company must utilise this opportunity and keep improving its products according to the consumers demand along with high quality production. Thus alignment in consumers behaviour and product with proper marketing strategy is what demanded after making PESTLE analysis considering social factor. In technological aspect the company can acquire latest and advanced technology in its processes with the help of which it can enhance the production and increase strategic decision making(Dudovskiy, 2016). This PESTLE analysis shows that with new and advanced technology it can develop business competitiveness. To incorporate a sense of responsibility and to improve its perception regarding its environmental impacts, PepsiCo can improve its waste clearance strategies like recycling. Climatically, the company faces threat as if any change occurs; it can disturb the market supply chain. The risk involving exposure to climate change can be minimised if the company promotes diversification in its global supply chain. On basis of this analysis, PepsiCo must get better in its environmental force to catch the attention and maintain relation with customers with stable market supply chain(Kevin-F, 2010). In countries like Europe, Genetically modified (GM) crops are being developed rapidly. By reducing GM component in PepsiCo products, it can satisfy country regulations and can present safe and healthy products. Thus with an acceptable regulatory requirement, PepsiCo can attain an opportunity of its growth in the long term. With legal analysis of the company, it can be said that to comply with regula tions and focus on product improvement will be beneficial for the company externally. SWOT Analysis Despite of various challenges and threats, PepsiCos ability to strengthen its market by growing continuously makes it one of the most prominent in food and beverage industries. This SWOT analysis structure will identify and analyse strength and opportunities of the company to overcome its threats and weaknesses with the help of which it can minimise hurdles in its worldwide growth. PepsiCo holds one of the strongest brands in the market which helps to gain attention of the customers while launching any new product. Frito-Lay products, Quaker Products, and Pepsi products are few examples of its successful brands which has captured the entire food market with ease. The effective and advanced global production and supply network are its strength which has helped in establishing international growth and expansion strategy of the company. On the other hand, 70% of its total revenue is observed from the markets of North America and South America, PepsiCos weakness in internal strategic fac tor states that the company has not yet maximised its possible revenue outside America. Any risk related in food and beverage market can be a direct hit to the company as it deals largely in food and beverages only. Therefore the weakness of the company lies in its dependence on other food market completely and to overcome this weakness, the company have to make changes in its growth strategy(Young, 2017). PepsiCo fails in effective marketing as many of its products does not reach to the consumers which are more health conscious and thus require giving more stress on its marketing strategy. By penetrating in the market of developing countries outside America, PepsiCo can generate more revenues globally. By purchasing another company which is not in the food and beverage industry, PepsiCo can obtain an opportunity by diversifying its business. The market existence can also be increased by making collaboration and alliance with complimentary business. Threats regarding competition in the market have always been there for PepsiCo. Companies like Coca Cola and Dr Pepper Snapple had always influenced the company severely. The changing habits of the consumers and their concern for health and lifestyle had been another threat for the company. This aspect of SWOT analysis demands that PepsiCo must restructure its strategies to reduce the threat and gradually observe the opportunity behind it.( Pratap, 2016) Competetive Anaysis The current market in terms of supply and demand is highly diverse. In any product, to keep up with consumers preference is vital and cannot be neglected. With the use of unique marketing strategy and brand name, PepsiCo had succeeded in winning the mind set of customers. Quality product and easy availability is what demanded in any marketplace and decision of the companys position in the market is based highly on it(SAIHJPAL, 2010). PepsiCo have to face constant competition in the market with other companies dealing in same group. There are big competitors like Odwalla, Perrier Coca-Cola, and Cadbury-Schweppes, and smaller ones include Budweiser, Evian, Heineken, and Fresh Samantha. Though there are many, the two most significant competitors of the company are Coca-Cola Company and Dr Pepper Snapple Group. In order to make a competitive analysis of PepsiCo, it is important to know about the market structure and the key strategies of its competitors. Coca- Cola being its top most com petitors rules the industry in top position and was founded in the year 1886. The company produces and sells non- alcoholic beverages, water products, and fruit juices. The company employees 123,200 people globally and hold assets valuing more than US490.093 billion.(About Us Coca-Cola History, 2017) The company is highly efficient in utilizing and assembling suitable amalgamation of resources. It also has a strong advertising management strategy which enables its product to reach the desired consumers with ease and maintains excellent response in changing market conditions. The war between the two companies has been witnessed constantly as the two regain weaknesses and strengths closely. Pepsi had always satisfied its suppliers with its easy availability which was a drawback for Coca-Cola as it lacks in the supply sometimes and also maintains moderate connections with them. In advertising segment also Pepsi dominates Coca-Cola as it spends a lot in it and is highly appreciated by c onsumers. But while making marketing analysis, Coca-Cola dominates PepsiCo fairly as with a wide network of distribution channel throughout the globe, the Coca-Cola products are readily available in more countries than PepsiCo. Thus with the help of analysis of both the company, it is seen that PepsiCo has a small product portfolio than Coco-Cola which makes it second in market comparison(Briggs, 2016). Dr Pepper Snapple remains constantly in third position in food and beverage industry after Coca-Cola and PepsiCo. In US, the carbonated soft drinks market has been shrinking continuously due to customers shifting away from calorie filled soda to sports drinks, ready to drink tea and coffee, and bottled water. Although, CSDs amounts to 41% of 31 billion gallon liquid refreshment market, which had been crucial for Dr Pepper Snapple as 80%of its product is related to beverage making. Both Coke and Pepsi holds majority of the global market strongly but Dr Pepper is also giving tough competitions to them and is also one of the chief competitors of Pepsi. Dr Pepper Snapple was founded in 2008 and was a result of merger between American soft drink Company in Texas and Britains Cadbury Schweppes(Dr Pepper Snapple (DPS), 2017). The company follows cost cutting strategy which had made it come in alignment with PepsiCo and is giving potential revenue return from present market where all others are struggling to survive. The company has always been struggling to hold a position in international market and as a result sold the rights to Coca Cola for international market sales. It also sold distribution rights of 7UP, which is core of Dr Pepper, to PepsiCo in 1986 for $246 million. Thus by enabling its products in international market with the help of bigger companies, saved its marketing cost and under the namesake of them, it gained popularity. After making competitive analysis it can be said that although PepsiCo outwit Dr Pepper, but have to keep a close watch as the former is increasing its market size fairly(Gooch, 2017). Consumer Buyer sCharacteristics The consumers behaviour is highly depended on factors like product packaging, advertising, campaigning, and most important brand image.(Jannet, 2010) In consumer satisfaction and brand preference analysis, PepsiCo products are more preferred and the consumers seem more satisfied with the taste and price of its products. The most prominent companies which PepsiCo holds are Pizza Hut, KFC, Pepsi-Cola, etc. which proves to be a profitable business outlets in food, shops, and restaurants. The company produces and supplies its products of refreshments and ready to eat products to more than one hundred countries(Unhale, 2017). The company has strong business in many countries and is growing rapidly by diversifying in functional areas. Along with great entrepreneurship skills, it has established strong franchise system and maintains campaigning and advertising to attract consumers(Ahmed, 2017). Brands and company which are able to attract the customers with innovative strategies are the one who are capable of sustaining in todays market. The considerable change in the lifestyle of consumers have made it necessary for the companies to diversify and change accordingly which PepsiCo has done to great extent and is highly accepted by customers. With enhanced marketing strategy, PepsiCo had played a chief position in soft drink business and also inclined the attitude of consumers towards the product. Pricing of the product is also important part which determines brand first choice in a competitive market place. PepsiCo again holds its position as it settles on the price of its product after studying the market pattern and economy of the country. The analysis of consumer psychology is also an important factor as in modern market any consumer buying a product gets attached to it emotionally. Consuming soft drink not only quenches thirst but also possesses emotional attachment to it. PepsiCo have always tried to understand people satisfaction points and have won to attain the same to large extent. Advertising is the basic tool which is utilised for marketing communication and with the help of social media like TV, magazine, radio, and online media it had maintained its popularity(Nguyen, 2014). Conclusion After making a brief analysis in major relating factors, it can be said that PepsiCo holds a strong position and had maintained reputation by understanding customers psychology and demands. With efficient supply and quality production it had survived tactfully and gained loyalty among customers. The analysis also shows that PepsiCos supply chain network with modern techniques had captured the market widely(Fergusan, 2017). Thus on a concluding note it can be said that PepsiCo, although attains a second place worldwide, yet is a very well-built entity and should make more effort upon its weaknesses and rise above the threats with a more stronger organizational structure and reformed marketing strategies. It should try to diversify as much as feasible and also make sure that the struggle is dealt with by advancing technologically as well as modernising. It can improvise upon its inefficiencies by accepting the needs of the consumers which keeps on altering. Thus the business strategy h as to be originated as such which could be formed as per the demands of the condition. References About Us Coca-Cola History. (2017). Niche vs Multipurpose Themes - Which One Is Best for Your Project

Sidebars, widgets, themes, plugins, categories, tags, permalinks   seeing all these terms can cause a headache if youre a beginner. Sure, these terms sound cool, their meanings are obvious to  developers, and it seems that WordPress wouldnt have the same exponential expansion without those.  (I dare to say that even Big Bang is a little bit jealous about  WordPress expansion.)This is a guest contribution by Daniel Pintilie.Anyway, another two terms that might cause some head scratching are, niche and multipurpose when talking about WordPress themes. What are those? In this post, I  will clarify this, and also try answering the question of which is best for your project, a niche or a multipurpose theme? Its useless to mention how important a theme for the overall success of a website is. And since we did publish a post about how to install plugins and  how to choose a proper host,  it therefore makes sense to provide you with some valuable tips for selecting the right them e too.Niche WordPress themesThe barrier between niche and multipurpose themes isnt set in stone, and there arent criteria to make a clear distinction between niche and multipurpose ones. That being said, a niche theme is aimed to be used for a specific field there are niche themes for churches, charity projects, schools, DJs, events, etc. These themes ship with features that are useful mostly for their respective kind of project. Wrapping up, a niche theme should be used mostly if not only   for a specific purpose. Nothing more, nothing less. For instance, just looking into ThemeIsles library,  LawyeriaX is a theme  destined for attorneys, while Woga  is meant for yoga instructors and gyms. Both themes come packed with features, but I dont recommend using them for other purposes then the ones recommended by the developers (although it is only my personal opinion). Then, there are some slightly bigger themes that can still be labeled  niche, but actually offer a more extensi ve set of characteristics:FlyMag Pro is a great example in this regard; its primary market  is magazine and news-like sites. Still, it can  be successfully used for other blogging purposes too.  I like  to call these kinds of themes multi-niche.Multipurpose WordPress themesThe name is quite self-explanatory in itself. These themes can fit any kind of project: blogs, magazine news, portfolios, business projects, online shops, etc.Zelle Pro is a multipurpose theme of ThemeIsles that has made its mark on the web, and is now valued by thousands of users.Another example,  Divi is the Elegant Themes flagship theme, and its one of the most used WordPress themes out there. Lastly,  Avada, another multipurpose theme, has been trusted  by almost 250,000 customers so far.Under the hood,  these themes dont miss any particular feature; you have at your disposal everything to create a wonderful WordPress website! Without any doubt, these multipurpose themes are some of the most ad vanced tools allowing you to create websites without writing a line of code.Which is better? Niche or multipurpose WordPress themesI hope that you have a better understanding of what the differences between  niche and multipurpose themes are. Now lets look into which is going to be better for your specific project:First off, I hate answers that begin with it depends on, but in this case, the context and the purpose of the website has a major role. Youve guessed it, I dont have a general solution for this dilemma! However, there are some tips for choosing the proper theme depending on some criteria:1. The type and the complexity of the websiteSelecting a niche or a multipurpose theme hinges on the type and the complexity of the project. If you want to develop a huge website with lots of options then you should go for a multipurpose theme. On the other hand, if you want a decent website just to let people know that you and your business are online then a simple niche theme can be bet ter (if theres one for your particular niche). For instance, if you want to launch a web design blog, you should go for a multipurpose theme. With time, you might want to add sections to present your best works and/or to sell courses, works, or various  kinds of services. In other words, your blog may transform into a portfolio or an online store.2. The user skillsAnother thing to look at is your own level of confidence when customizing a theme and making it work.If you find yourself more on the beginner side of the spectrum then a niche theme is going to be better for you. They are usually much easier to get going, and dont offer too many unneeded options. For slightly more experienced users, multipurpose might be better.  Some of those themes are more complex, and might put some users in trouble. But all of them come with reliable support, and the WordPress community is truly helpful.3. The time invested into the pre-launch phaseAnother important factor to take into account in t he dilemma of niche vs. multipurpose is the investment itself.Setting up a WordPress website is a serious task, and it calls for a decent investment of time. Even the most experienced WordPress users spend time to check all the features of a theme before launching it online.Usually, a niche theme comes with fewer options, and it implies a shorter period of time invested in the customization work. On the average, niche themes also have fewer sales than multipurpose themes, so the risk of looking similar to other websites is pretty low.A multipurpose theme requires more work to set it up, as there are more features. Also, the risk of looking similar to other websites is higher than in the case of niche themes. At the end of the day, though, the countless features give you the ability to create stunning creations.Wrapping up, you should have a clear plan when launching a new website. And once all the steps of this plan are correctly done, you will have your answer you will know whether you should go with a niche theme or a multipurpose one.My personal advice: read this blog post carefully, take all the tips into account, and think hard on what kind of website you want to launch, what your resources are, time, etc. Once you have all these clearly determined, read it even once again. Then decide. What do you think, are niche themes better? Or not?About the author: Daniel Pintilie is a blogger Internet marketer ready to create valuable, actionable and interesting content for your website. Investigation of effective Bluetooth security features The WritePass Journal

Investigation of effective Bluetooth security features Introduction Investigation of effective Bluetooth security features IntroductionSteps in Authentication ProcessConfidentialityTrust levels, Service levels, and AuthorizationsReferencesRelated Introduction Bluetooth signals can be easily intercepted, as can any other type of wireless signals. Therefore, the Bluetooth specification calls for the built-in security to discourage eavesdropping and attempts to falsify the origin of messages, which is called â€Å"spoofing†. This section provides an overview of the security mechanisms included in the Bluetooth specifications to illustrate their limitations and provide a foundation for some of the security recommendations. In this example, Bluetooth security is provided between the mobile phone and the laptop computer. IEEE 802.11 security protects the wireless local area network link which is between the laptop computer and the IEEE 802.11 AP. The communications on the wired network are not protected by the Bluetooth security. 1. Three Basic Security Services The three basic security services specified in the Bluetooth standard are authentication, confidentiality and authorization. Authentication     Prevents spoofing and unwanted access to critical data and functions. It is the process of verifying the identity of the communication devices. User authentication is not provided natively by Bluetooth. The Bluetooth device authentication procedure is in the front of a challenge-response scheme. The device attempting to prove its identity in an authentication process is the claimant and the device validating the identity of the claimant is the verifier. The challenge-response protocol validates devices by verifying the knowledge of a secret key, which is the Bluetooth link key. Steps in Authentication Process   Step 1: The verifier transmits a 128-bit random challenge (AU_RAND) to the claimant, which is obtained from the random number generator derived from a pseudo-random process within the Bluetooth device. Step 2: The claimant uses the E1 algorithm to compute an authentication response using its unique 48-bit Bluetooth device address (BD_ADDR), the link key, and AU_RAND as inputs. The verifier does the same computation. Step 3: The claimant returns the most significant 32 bits of the E1 output as the computed response, SRES to the verifier. Step 4: The verifier uses a comparator to compare the SRES from the claimant and its own computed value from the E1 algorithm. Step 5: If both the values are the equal, the authentication is considered successful. If not, the authentication has failed. The 5 steps accomplishes one-way authentication. The Bluetooth standards allow both one-way and mutual authentication to be performed. For mutual authentication, the steps are repeated with the verifier and claimant switching roles. Confidentiality Preventing information compromise caused by ensuring that only authorised devices can access and view data. To provide confidentiality to the user’s data, encryption technique is used by the Bluetooth technology. Bluetooth has three Encryption Modes. The modes are as follows: Encryption Mode 1: No encryption is performed on any traffic. Encryption Mode 2: Individually addressed traffic is encrypted using encryption keys based on individual link keys. Broadcast traffic is not encrypted. Encryption Mode 3: All traffic is encrypted using an encryption key based on the master link key. The encryption key is produced using an internal key generator (KG). The KG produces stream cipher keys based on 128-bit link key, 128 bit EN_RAND and 96-bit ACO value which is the least significant bits from the E1 algorithm of authentication process. A key stream output is exclusive-OR-ed with the payload bits and sent to the receiving device. This stream key is produced using a cryptographic algorithm based on linear feedback shift registers (LFSR). The clock provides the slot number. The encryption function E0 output is exclusive-OR-ed with the sender data and transmitted. The received data is exclusive-OR-ed with the keystream and original data is retrieved. Trust levels, Service levels, and Authorizations The Bluetooth levels of trust are Trusted device: fixed relationship with another device and has full access to all services. Untrusted device: does not have an established relationship and hence restricted access to services. The security services defined for Bluetooth devices are Service level 1: requires authorization and authentication. Automatic access is granted to trusted device; untrusted devices need manual authorization. Service level 2:   requires authentication only; authorization is not necessary. Access to an application is granted only after an authentication procedure. Service level 3:   open to all devices, with no authentication required. Access is granted automatically. 2. Security Modes The various versions of Bluetooth specifications define four security modes. Each Bluetooth device must operate in one of the four modes. Security Mode 1: a non secure mode. Authentication and encryption are bypassed leaving the device and connections susceptible to attackers. This mode is only supported in v2.0 + EDR devices. Security mode 2: a service level-enforced security mode. The security procedures are initiated after LMP link establishment but before L2CAP channel establishment. The authentication and encryption mechanisms in this mode are implemented at the LMP layer. All Bluetooth devices support this security mode 2. Security Mode 3: link level-enforces security mode. The Bluetooth device initiates the security procedures before the physical link is fully established. This mode mandates authentication and encryption for all connections to and from the devics. The effect of foreign currency in accounting - Essay Example It is applicable to individual persons as well as corporate entities. The disclosure procedure includes the attachment of an additional document alongside the individual’s income tax return form. Failure to disclose the proper amount or the exclusion of any particular asset from the reporting can result in stringent fines. The minimum penalty that is applicable is $10,000. After the initial penalty is charged, there is a grace period of 90 days before incremental charges start to accrue. These charges apply at a rate of $10,000 for every 30 days gone by without the proper rectification. This however is applicable after the 90 days grace period is over. Additional penalties have been declared for gross negligence amounting to 40% of the amount misrepresented or omitted without criminal intent. This is a spike of 100%, moving from 20% of the gross to 40% of the gross. A key note which is beneficial for the IRS and not so beneficial for the tax payer is that the statute of limita tions on performing audits of taxpayers has been extended two fold to 6 years. Previously, the IRS authorities only had the right to investigate the revenue generation of people and companies up to a maximum period of 3 years prior.

Describe a circumstance that led you become interested in a career in Essay

Describe a circumstance that led you become interested in a career in diagnostic imaging ( radiologic technology ) - Essay Example I am 30 years old and after I stopped going to school for many years, the experience prodded me to go back to become a radiologic technologist. I have recognized the intricate and valuable nature of work associated with this profession, especially in terms of performing the required diagnostic imaging examinations that would diagnose the accurate source of illness or abnormality. As an enthusiastic student, I have made simple research on this career path and my studies revealed that â€Å"employment is projected to grow faster than average; those with knowledge of more than one diagnostic imaging procedure will have the best employment opportunities† (Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), par. 1). With increased learning in more procedures, one would gain extensive expertise in this career and enable the realization of attractive financial benefits, coupled with more opportunities for advancement. The same report provided by the BLS indicated that â€Å"some technologists progres s by specializing in the occupation to become instructors or directors in radiologic technology educational programs; others take jobs as sales representatives or instructors with equipment manufacturers† (BLS, par. 26).

Means of Transport Use on Campus Essay Transport is an important thing to everyone, as well as students. Campus location is the influence for students to choose means of transport on campus. Students will choose the easy transport to take them to all over the place and easy to find. Transportation is also important for students to move from their campus to their hostel, cafeteria or any other places. Based on graph, the highers preffered means of transport in 2006 is car, this means students preffered to choose private transport as their transportation to campus. Car is a private transport that easy for them to move from one campus to another campus without necessary to keep on waiting. On the other hand motorcycle is the second highers means of transport used on campus, it is also a private transport which is easy for students to find and use in campus. Besides that students also use campus bus and other public transport but base on the graph it is less than car and motorcycle. In 2007 and 2008 the graph shows that number of vehicle preffered by students’ as a means of transport on campus for car increase to 2600 for year 2007 and 3500 for year 2008, meanwhile for motorcycle, campus bus and other transport are remain unchanged. There are a few factors to explain the increasing of car. As we know all students in second semester and above are allowed to bring their own transport, first semester students in 2006 will bring their own transport in a second semester and they choose to drive a car as their transportation that will increase the number of vehicle quantity for car. Thus, a new students in a first semester for 2007 and 2008 will use campus bus and other transport such as a bicycle, taxi and others. The other factor to explain the increasing number of vehicle for car is students who choose a motorcycle before, are change their transportation from motorcycle to car. As we can see, the number of parking spaces on campus were increase from 2006 until 2008, it is due to the incriesing number of car as a means of transport on campus. On the other hand, car parking spaces for is limited compared to parking spaces for motorcycle which is more than that. As a conclusion to the graph, we can find that students means of transport in campus is more to a private vehicles such as a car and motorcycle. Cold Mountain : The Civil War Essay -- essays research papers

Cold Mountain: The Civil War   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The Civil War was a four year armed conflict between northern and southern sections of the United States. The Civil War cost more American lives than any other war in history. There were bout 3 million people who fought in the beginning of the Civil War and about 600,000 people’s lives were lost at the end of the war. What began for many as a romantic adventure soon became a heartbreaking bitter struggle between the two parts of a divided country. This, however, was more than the industrial North fighting against the agricultural South. There were divided families with brother fighting brother. Some Northerners joined the Southern ranks and some Southerners were in the Union army, each fighting for what he thought was right.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The most obvious causes of the Civil War were the issues of states’ rights and slavery.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Hundreds of books, movies, and documentaries have been published on the Civil War. One of them was writ ten by Charles Frazier called Cold Mountain. The novel focuses on the life during the Civil War.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Cold Mountain captures some of the spirit and reality of the Civil War. Many people contributed their time, effort and lives in the Civil War. The main character, Inman, walks away from a hospital for Confederate wounded at the start of the book and is constantly on the move, meeting odd and dangerous characters, even a Circe. Beginning with Inman’s decision to leave the hospital where he has been recovering from a near fatal neck wound which turns him into a deserter, or an â€Å"outlier†. As a fugitive, Inman must take back roads and obscure footpaths, always hiding from the murderous Home Guards. Inman is sickened by the wanton waste of young lives on the battle field and torn between the traditional conflict of valor and cowardice. In the field hospital, the injured Confederate private witnesses the brutality of both sides in the most bloody of American armed struggles, the War Between the States. Emotionally shaken, Inman realizes that he will r eturn to the front and possible death as soon as he is well. He watches men on both sides ordered to charge into lethal barrages of gunfire and cannon shot, only to fall after a few precious steps. On more than one occasion, he is forced to kill. Inman is haunted by ni... ...m. Everything that she wanted, he gave her. He was a trader who lost his money because of the war, (†¦Ã¢â‚¬ at arm’s length the war, the embargo, the various other expressions of hard times, and their effect on Ada’s income†¦(61),† which left Ada nothing when he died.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Goat woman is an old lady that takes care of goats, and had been far away from the human world. She meets Inman while she is doing something to a bird trap. The goat woman takes care of Inman for a few days and helped heal his neck wound from the battle and from the wandering Home Guard.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Charles Frazier had a very different way of narrating a story about the Civil War. Usually when people think of the word war, they think of it as people killing people or something more brutal. But instead, Charles Frazier focused his novel on how the war affected the lives of the people during the war. It was a very realistic novel because his characters were not all heroes, they were ordinary people with struggles and problems that they have to deal with and adapt to. Frazier did an excellent job by recapturing the war and how it affected those people who lived in Cold Mountain. Huckleberry Finn’s Road to Maturation

Huck states to Judge Thatcher â€Å"Please take it, and don't ask me nothing—then I won't have to tell no lies† (16). That quote is said by Huck to Judge Thatcher when Huck finds his pap is in town and pap will try to take his money. The Maturation of Huckleberry Finn is important because its about Huck making the right decisions to help him and Jim to freedom. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain, begins with Huck introducing himself. He is wild and carefree, playing jokes on people and believing them all to be hilarious. When his adventures grow to require more maturity than ever, there is a drastic change in his opinions, thoughts, and his views of â€Å"right and wrong†. By the time the book is over, it is apparent that he has matured greatly since the introduction of the novel. Mark Twain is making a point about Huck’s maturation; the specific point he is making is that even though Huck had a rough past he still does his best to make himse lf and his friend Jim a bright future. This analysis will include Hucks loyalty to Jim, Hucks bravery, and when Huck feels bad about his actions. Huckleberry Finn’s Road to Maturation

Objectives and Goals of a Lesson Plan

Objectives, also known as goals, are the first step in writing a strong  lesson plan. This article includes descriptions of the objectives of lesson plans, how to write them, examples, and tips. Goal-Writing Tips Whenever possible, write clearly defined and specific objectives (goals) that are easy to measure. That way, at the conclusion of your lesson, it will be relatively easy to determine if you met or missed your objectives, and by how much. Objective In the objectives section of your lesson plan, write precise and delineated goals for what you want your students to be able to accomplish after the lesson is completed. Here is an example: Lets say that you are writing a lesson plan on nutrition. For this unit plan, your objective for the lesson is for students to name a few food groups, identify the food groups, and learn about the food pyramid. Your goal should be specific and use numbers where appropriate. This will help you determine if you met your objectives or not after the lesson is over. What to Ask Yourself In order to define your lessons objectives, consider asking yourself the following questions: What will students accomplish during this lesson? To what specific level (i.e. 75% accuracy) will the students perform a given task in order for the lesson to be considered satisfactorily accomplished?Exactly how will the students show that they understood and learned the goals of your lesson? Will this occur through a worksheet, group work, presentation, illustration, etc? Additionally, you will want to make sure that the lessons objective fits in with your district and state educational standards for your grade level. By thinking clearly and thoroughly about the goals of your lesson, you will ensure that you are making the most of your teaching time. Examples Here are a few examples of what an objective would look like in your lesson plan. After reading the book Life in the Rainforest, sharing a class discussion, and drawing plants and animals, students will be able to place six specific characteristics into a Venn diagram of the similarities and differences of plants and animals, with 100% accuracy. While learning about nutrition, students will keep a food journal, create a balanced meal using the food pyramid (or food plate, as it is now called), write a recipe for a healthy snack, as well as name all of the food groups and the foods that correlate with them. While learning about the local government, the goal of this lesson is to have students identify the components of local government and be able to generate four to six sentences using local government facts and vocabulary. While students learn about the pattern of digestion, by the end of the lesson they will know how to physically point out areas of the digestive track, as well as tell specific facts about how the food we eat can turn into the fuel that our bodies need. After the objective, you will define the anticipatory set. Edited By: Janelle Cox
